Township Paved Roads

In the spring of 2025, the Township engaged the engineering firm Stantec to evaluate the condition of the 5.5 miles of paved roads in the Township. As a result of that evaluation and the cost estimates at the time, the Township requested bids in January for rebuilding the roads in Wendwood, Bittersweet and Timberlane.

February 10 the Township received five bids for the work, the low bid being $1,027,841 from Crane Creek Asphalt. A portion of the cost will be assessed to residents. There will be a public hearing on the assessments at the regular Township meeting on March 11. The proposed assessment is 30% over 10 years. For example, the Wendwood project will cost $348,112. The assessed amount, at 30%, would be $104,433. This would be divided evenly among the 19 occupied lots and spread over 10 years, resulting in an annual assessment of about $550. This will appear on your property tax statement as a special assessment. An estimate for each of the neighborhoods is shown below.

The Township is required to assess at least 20% of the project cost. We have some flexibility to adjust the assessment percentage and period. The Board will decide on adjustments to the above proposal at the Public Hearing on March 11. We are bonding for the total project cost which will result in a debt payment of about $107,000 per year over the next 15 years. The assessments cover a portion of the payment; the balance comes from the general levy.

Road Project Cost Total Assessed at 30 % Number of Lots Annual Assessment (assuming 10-yr period)
Wendwood $348,112 $104,433 19 $550
Bittersweet $274,004 $82,201 28 $293
Timberlane $405,274 $121,582 46 $264

Snow Removal

We would like to remind Bridgewater Township residents that it is unlawful to deposit snow onto public roadways or to push snow across public roadways per Minnesota Statute 160.2715. Snow deposited or pushed onto the road can create hazards to the public and future snow removal operations. Citizens that violate this statute could face misdemeanor and/or civil penalties if the snow creates a hazard that contributes to an accident. The Township snow removal/sanding trucks will be out as soon as possible following a 2” snow event. The Township is not responsible for any damage resulting from snow thrown in the road right-of-way. Mailboxes damaged during snow removal operations will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Only those mailboxes located and installed in compliance with MN State Statute 160.072 and MN Rule 8818.0100, and damaged by direct contact with township equipment will be repaired at the Township’s expense.

Gravel / Dust Control

Gravel is added to the township roads on a three year rotation. When gravel and dust control is placed on the road is dependent on the weather.

Weed Control Policy

The purpose of this policy is to enact guidelines for noxious weed control and reporting on Township rights of way and private property. Private property, Township property and Right of Way (ROW) within the Township are under the control of the Township Board Supervisors AKA Weed Inspectors.
